Poetry Sites/ Story Sites

bulletLearn Poetry -  This site teaches students how to write better poetry.  It also gives poetry that people have wrote.
bullet Giggle Poetry   - Learn how to write a haiku poem here.  It also has many activities for writing and learning how to write poetry fun.
bulletStorytelling    - Learn how to tell stories plus enjoy the wonderful story links.
bulletWacky Web Tales – Create your own wacky tale while reviewing parts of speech. This interactive site, sponsored by Houghton Mifflin, is fun for everyone.
bulletFun Poetry and Sites for Kids -  This is a site for kids to check out what is new in poetry.  Also teacher can use this as a resource.
bulletDigital Storytelling – This site features an annual storytelling festival, but it has a really great place where you can read past stories, and/or add new stories.

Grammar Sites

Grammar Gorillas  -  Students can come here to learn new things and get help with their grammar. 
Guide to Grammar & Writing -  Students can receive tips on writing, take quizzes to practice grammar and ask an expert their questions. 
Tips for Teaching Grammar -  Great sites for teachers to find helpful tips on teaching grammar and writing.
Grammar Quizzes - This is a site that students can take quizzes or teachers can get quizzes to give to the students.
Surfing the Net With Kids-  This is a site were kids can look through many different grammar sites to help them with assignments.
English Exercises Online - Exercises and online handouts to help the busy English teacher; subjects include grammar, vocabulary, reading and links to other sites. 
Wacky Web Tales – Create your own wacky tale while reviewing parts of speech. This interactive site, sponsored by Houghton Mifflin, is fun for everyone.
The Parts of Speech – The eight parts of speech are defined. Examples are provided. This is part of the HyperGrammar site from the University of Ottawa.
Writing Den's Tip-O-Matic – This site provides online assistance for young writers. Sites include writing better: sentences, paragraphs and essays.
MLA: Documentation Style – the Modern Language Association of America provides these writing and documentation guidelines, by clicking on MLA Style and then choose the area you would like to find more information about.
Little Explorers Dictionary – This is a picture dictionary for young children. It is available in different languages.
Spelling Online Games – For a list of online spelling games and activities, check out the links at Parenting/Earthlink.
 Educational Laboratory are Ideas and Content, Organization, Voice, Word Choice, Sentence Fluency, and Conventions.
Reading/Language Arts Center- This site contains lists of popular authors and the books that they have written. It also has links to different activities that could go along with the book. A database is available through this site containing different lesson plans dealing with Language arts. Some of these lesson plans incorporate Language Arts across the curriculum. Develop your own Wacky Web Tale right on line to practice the different parts of speech. Also there are many more links with fun activities.

bulletSakes Alive E-Mail Adventures - Children read online stores and respond to characters through e-mail.  Beautiful color illustrations.
bulletThe Write Site – Designed for middle schools, this site encourages students to be a reporter. It is sponsored by Greater Dayton Public Television and actually takes students inside a newsroom.
bulletWorld Writers – This site is presented by the Birchwood Elementary School. It has story starters, and editing page, samples of stories written by children and a how-to publish to the web page.
bulletVirtual Presentation Assistant – Need help with public speaking? This site gives advice from choosing a topic to analyzing your audience.
bulletWriting and Grammar Resources Want a site that would inspire students to become better writers. Writing and Grammar Resources is an excellent site that has many links that could be another resource for teachers to use to encourage students to improve on their writing.

 

Activities

Students in the Language Art's Methods class develop activities in oral communication, written communication and drama.  Check back often as the ideas are constantly changing.
