Ancient Egypt

Theme - I chose Ancient Egypt for my theme. It is aimed for sixth grade students (this can be used for students as young as second grade, but I believe it is better suited for older elementary students). I think that this theme could be used at any time of the year.
Possible standards that might be addressed include:
recognize the contributions of the Ancient Egyptian civilization
understand the customs of the Ancient Egyptian culture
understand how the pyramids were built and why
understand the reason some Ancient Egyptians were buried "wrapped up" (mummies)
recognize and explore the Ancient Egyptian architectural monuments
understand the climate (desert) of Egypt
realize the writing methods used by the people of Ancient Egypt (hieroglyphs)
