Ladybugs

 
I chose ladybugs for my theme.  I targeted my lesson at first grade students.  Students can explore the life and life cycle of ladybugs.  They can also compare ladybugs with different insects such as crickets, grasshoppers, etc. 

Here are some possible standards that might be addressed:

South Dakota Standards for First Grade Life Science:

  • trace and compare the life cycle of various organisms. (example: frogs, grasshoppers, dogs)
  • classify animals according to physical characteristics. (example: body shape, appendages)

Introduction:  This site would be a good introduction to a ladybug unit.
