This curriculum theme is designed to teach students about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., his accomplishments, and the impact he made during the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s.  This theme could be used most fittingly around the third Monday in January when we celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

 

Grade Level:

1st Grade

 

 

FIRST GRADE HISTORY STANDARD:

Students will identify through biographies and stories the admirable deeds performed by past leaders, such as: Helen Keller, Ben Franklin, Martin Luther King, Clara Barton, Alexander Graham Bell, Thomas Edison, George Washington, and Abraham Lincoln.
